The Diary of a Young African Obese girl

She was born into the family of the Durojaye on the 11th of April 1987. Her parents always wanted a girl child so when she came eventually, their Joy knew no bound. Everyone loved Adejoke because aside being a very beautiful child she was also very intelligent. No one was permitted to reprimand her, she ate any and everything without caution and before Joke clocked 10years she was already looking times two older and was very fat. Little did her parents know that danger was lurking around!

One Saturday morning, Joke followed her mummy to the shop, after a while, she told her mum she wanted to ease herself. Her mum pointed to a particular spot and told her to urinate there while she watched. Not too long she finished urinating, her mother noticed ants all around the spot where her daughter had urinated.

Being a not too educated mother, she didn’t understand what this meant and decided to observe a few more times. It soon became a regular thing. Then she decided to take her daughter to the hospital. On getting to the hospital, she narrated everything to the doctor. He asked about other things she noticed. She responded “Hmm… she is always drinking water, gets hungry very quickly and can urinate up to 15 times before the day is over.”

“Is that all?” asked the doctor, she replied “yes”. We would need to run some tests on her but from everything you have told me, it seems your daughter has diabetes.

Thanks for reading Adejoke’s diary. There are key points I would like you to note from this story. They include:

·        * Diabetes is a disease that is associated with high blood sugar and it will affect the breakdown of all the food you eat

·        * Diabetes could occur in anyone either young or old.

·        * People who are very fat have high risk of diabetes. If you are one, please work out, go and exercise, do it regularly. You will keep yourself free from diseases if you are in good shape.

·        * Common symptoms of diabetes include: Frequent urination, increased thirst and increased hunger. Others problems diabetes can cause are: blindness, heart diseases, kidney problems etc.

Lastly, please check your blood sugar often. Diabetes is much easy to manage when identified early. Parents don't indulge your children by giving them junks all the time. Let them eat healthy food and be physically active. You will save yourself a lot of stress and money too in the end.

STAY HEALTHY WITH GOODNESS

    1. I'm sorry for my late reply, I just saw this question. Yes, it could be linked to the family lineage. The best thing to do if someone has it in one's family is to watch what you eat most especially sugary stuff, if the person is obese.
