Seven best ways to keep your heart healthy and strong

Your heart is in hands.

Do you know that cardiovascular diseases are now the first in rank of diseases that claim the life of people over the world? In as much as I am not trying to spread fear, I believe it’s important we keep abreast with what is happening around us. In light of this, I would be sharing with you, seven best ways to keep your heart continuously working properly and effectively. Yes, because the heart is majorly linked to cardiovascular diseases. So, let’s move quickly!!

The first way is to drink a lot of water. Water keeps your body hydrated and keeps your vital organs working well and strong.

Second, cut the fat. I know you love pies, pastries, cakes, fatty meats, butter and margarine a lot but you have to slash your intake to no more than 7% of your daily calories because they contain lots of saturated fat. You should check the nutrition labels on the things you buy. Take stock of what you eat and avoid foods high in saturated fats.

Thirdly, reduce salt intake, this one is highly necessary. This is why the average American is advised to take not more than half teaspoonful of salt daily. Please work on your salt intake.

The fourth is to make time for breakfast, the first meal of the day is an important one. Eating a nutritious breakfast can help your heart as well as your weight. Suggestions of healthy diet good for your heart includes: whole grain such as oatmeal, yoghurt or cheese, fruits and vegetables, low fat milk etc.

Brushing your teeth regularly is the fifth one. Good oral hygiene does more than keep your teeth white and glistening. According to the cloveland clinic, some researches suggest that the bacteria that cause gum disease can raise your risk of heart diseases

Avoid stress as much as you can. You have to take life easy. Always find time to relax and rest. Remember you only live once, (YOLO) so you must live well.

Lastly, create time to do the things you love. You may enjoy seeing movies, spending time with your loved ones, going to fish, or even sleeping. Just carve out time to do the things you love. It really helps you stay continuously healthy and strong.

I would also love to add this, please check your cholesterol level, blood pressure, blood sugar level and body mass index as often as you can. You could make it your birthday gift to yourself every year, cool right?

I would be closing with this piece of advice from Sharon, a woman who survived a widow maker heart attack(heart attack that affects the front area of the heart). She said, “Take time to look after your own heart health. We are not going to do ourselves any good if we are dead”.

Thank you very much for reading.

THE PLUMBLINE

One sunny afternoon, shortly after taking a nap, on my soft, silky mattress, I wondered what my next line of action should be, seeing ASUU had refused us entry into classrooms. The incessant strikes were taking their toll on people, with most  students gradually falling into a state of despondency. Refusing to wallow in self-pity, I decided to "catch cruise" onlin e. I grabbed my phone and began searching for inspiring YouTube videos. During this search, I stumbled on a video that featured a famous intellectual, who was both a public speaker and a writer, well-known and respected home and abroad. She was the keynote speaker for the symposium. I was so curious to know what her talk would be about that I glued my eyes to the phone screen.  Throughout the speech, I didn't realize how swiftly time flew by. I was too busy paying attention to her every move and latching onto the flawless flow of her well-construed sentences. ' This is what I'm interested in anyway...

A Story of Medical Innocence

What is life without friends? It's like a world full of darkness. I lost a friend of mine to the cold hands of death on the 15th of October 1995. Pick up a chair and allow me to tell you how it happened.    That fateful morning, my friend Eze, a final year accounting student, was going to read in preparation for his final exams. The exam had started and he had two papers left when calamity struck! It started as a slight headache as he was reading in the library, then it became more serious and he decided to get some painkillers from the medicine store but the quantity he was told to take was too much for him and this guy had high blood pressure (sighs...) he took the drug and that was the end, he d...
